Fall & Winter Visitors 2025
If you are planning to visit during the off-season between August 10 and May 1,
please call our Lamas at 607-656-4645 and inform them of your plans.
Suggested donation for over-nights is $35/person.
Discuss your meal plans with the lamas on-site.
It is possible to cook your own food while visiting during the off-season (it is not possible to do so during retreat time).
Please do not bring pets as coyotes move back in after the retreats and groups stop coming.
Thank you!
We’re happy to host quiet overnight visits outside of the summer retreat season. Please note that the center sits in the hills of Chenango County, and it is consistently colder, windier, and icier than New York City—often feeling like a different climate entirely. Plan and pack accordingly.
Before you come
-
Reserve in advance. Off-season staffing is limited, some lodging is closed and winterized. Therefor your stay must be confirmed by the Lama Residence.
-
Check road & weather conditions. Back roads can be snowy or muddy. During the winter season, a vehicle with good tires (and ideally AWD/4WD) is recommended. Arrive before dark when possible.
What to bring (winter)
-
Serious warmth layers: during winter, thermal base layers, fleece/wool mid-layers, insulated jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves/mittens (bring a spare pair).
-
Cold-weather footwear: waterproof boots plus warm socks; optional traction cleats for icy paths.
-
Sleep comfort: cozy pajamas, an extra blanket or sleeping bag liner if you run cold.
-
Lights & extras: headlamp/flashlight, thermos, lip balm, hand moisturizer.
On campus
-
Expect early sunsets and very quiet nights—please observe quiet hours.
-
Paths can be icy or uneven; move carefully and use railings where available.
-
No pets are allowed on the grounds at any time. We cannot allow pets to stay inside dormitories. Ask about pet-friendly accommodations.
-
Cell service can be spotty; download maps and confirmations before you travel.
If you’re used to NYC winters, imagine stepping up a notch: colder temps, more wind, and black ice underfoot. Pack for warmth first, bring sidewalk salt to sprinkle where you walk, and you’ll have a peaceful, beautiful stay.
