5. Vajrasattva – Purification

Dates: July 29 – Aug 1

Description:

As elucidated in the profound teachings of Patrul Rinpoche’s book, The Words of My Perfect Teacher, our journey towards realization is often hindered by negative actions, obscurations, and ingrained habitual tendencies. The transformative practice of Vajrasattva serves as a potent method for purifying these impediments and clearing the path to enlightenment.

In this enlightening class, participants will receive comprehensive teachings on the four powers—support, regret, resolution, and action—integral to the practice of Vajrasattva. Guided meditation sessions on Vajrasattva and immersive chanting and prostration practices will be offered to facilitate deep purification and spiritual rejuvenation.

While this class stands as a transformative retreat in its own right, it is also a vital component of the Ngöndro practice in the Nam Chö tradition—the lineage practice of Palyul. As such, participants are encouraged to undertake this class sequentially as part of their journey towards spiritual fulfillment and liberation.

Prerequisites: It is best if the prospective student has taken the preceeding classes (Four Thoughts, Refuge, Bodhicitta, Mandala) and engaged in those practices in the retreat context. However, all Ngöndro courses are open to any who wish to attend. In order to proceed to the second year (Tsa Lung), the full Ngöndro course must be completed.

Class Master: Khenpo Jigmey Kalsang Rinpoche, also known as Khenpo Apchung, will lead the Ngondro class in 2024.

Class Umze: Our class umze and instructor is Lama Pasang Tenzin. Lama Pasang is highly experienced with new students and tireless in demonstrating all of the practices required for Ngondro.

Note: Class master and class lama are subject to change according to the instructions of the retreat vajra master. You will be informed of any such changes upon arrival at retreat.
