The Palyul Retreat Center is located on a former farm situated among Central New York State forest preserves. The forests keep air cool at night.
Because of weather patterns affected by the Great Lakes, Catskill Mountains, and relative proximity to Canada, local temps vary unpredictably year round.
Summer: Days can be sunny and warm or hot and humid with temperatures reaching to 90° F/32.2° C. The average temperature in July, 2023 was 78° F/25.6° C. Evenings can be chilly; in July, 2023 there was an evening the temperature reached 55° F/12.78° C. We’ve had temperatures as low as in the 40s F (4-5 C). We can get a rain storm with high winds. So be prepared for this range of temperatures, and the many days of beautiful, breezy, weather with crystal-blue-skies.
Winter: Winter months can see lake effect snow and it is possible to be snowed in at the center. There is a risk of power outages so one needs to be prepared to respond to those instances.
