The Annual Palyul Ling International Summer Retreat will take place from July 10 to August 10 this year.
Our retreat master will be His Holiness Gyangkhang Rinpoche. Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche will continue to teach the higher classes along with Khenpo Tenzin Norgay Rinpoche.
This is a wonderful opportunity to take retreat in a very traditional way.
Welcome to registration for the Palyul Summer Retreat. We look forward to seeing you this summer.
Qualifications
We are required to complete the preceding class session to be qualified to attend subsequent class sessions. Just like in school, we have to build on previous knowledge and practice.
The first year is the preliminary practice. There are no prerequisites for attendance; one can attend no matter what experience one has. We are guided personally by one of our most experienced Palyul monks in all of the meditation practices for this very important class.
Admission to classes in Tsa Lung (year 2) and Dzogchen (years 3 to 8) will depend on your completion of the previous year in-person at the retreat, except for Ngondro. Ngondro students may provide evidence of Ngondro empowerments, teachings and practice to our teachers for evaulation and possible promotion to the subsequent retreat session for which they are qualified.
New to the Retreat?
If this is your first time coming to the retreat, we’re excited you can join us. The first course available to you will be the Preliminary Practices, or Ngondro. You can find out more about Ngondro on our website.
Please note that if you are unable to attend the entire month you may attend part of the session. However, it is essential to attend each session in order without skipping any weeks. The sessions build on the previous ones, and this continuity is necessary to move forward to the next level.
Returning Students
We look forward to seeing you again. We love giving you the same room that you had the previous year, so the earlier you fully register, the better chances we have of being able to give you your customary accommodation.
Booking Rooms
Please note that our system does not reserve rooms in real-time. Room assignments will still need to be made manually by the office. Although we can request rooms and make reservations, your first choice may not be available. Therefore, please indicate a second choice when making your reservation.
Those attending 4 nights or less are considered “Weekenders” and will need to use a different form which is located here.
Attending Part-time is Possible!
If you would like to attend but cannot attend for the full month, you can divide up your sessions as follows:
Ngondro – by sessions as delineated in the form
Tsa Lung – you may attend the first two week session one year (7/10 – 7/24) and the second two weeks the next year (7/25 – 8/10)
Dzogchen classes – you may attend in one- or two-week segments (7/10 – 7/16; 7/17 – 7/24; 7/25 – 8/01; 8/02 – 8/10).
Weekends
If you would like just to attend on weekends to receive empowerments and attend Ngondro practice sessions, please do not fill out this form, but instead use the form here.
Retreat Manual
Our retreat manual can be found on this website. It has lots of useful information such as a packing list, books to read, and so forth.
Questions?
Our helpful office volunteer staff are waiting to answer any questions. Please email them at retreat@palyul.org and they’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Looking forward to seeing you on retreat!
