Dates: July 19 – July 21
Description:
As the first step of the Extraordinary or Inner Preliminaries of Ngöndro, participants will have the profound opportunity to take refuge in the retreat master. This transformative teaching will delve into the nuances of faith and motivation, providing insightful explanations on the various types of faith and the significance of motivation in spiritual practice. Additionally, detailed guidance on the precepts of the refuge vow will be offered, illuminating the path towards establishing a firm foundation in the Buddhist tradition.
While it is indeed possible to engage in this class as a standalone practice, it is strongly recommended to first immerse oneself in the Outer Preliminaries (the Four Thoughts). These foundational contemplations serve as pillars of understanding, preparing participants for the deeper insights and commitments of the Inner Preliminaries. By cultivating a thorough understanding of the Outer Preliminaries, participants lay the groundwork for a more profound and transformative journey towards refuge and spiritual awakening.
Prerequisites: It is best if the prospective student has taken the preceeding classe (the Four Thoughts) and engaged in those practices in the retreat context. However, all Ngöndro courses are open to any who wish to attend. In order to proceed to the second year (Tsa Lung), the full Ngöndro course must be completed.
Class Master: Khenpo Jigmey Kalsang Rinpoche, also known as Khenpo Apchung, will lead the Ngondro class in 2024.
Class Umze: Our class umze and instructor is Lama Pasang Tenzin. Lama Pasang is highly experienced with new students and tireless in demonstrating all of the practices required for Ngondro.
Note: Class master and class lama are subject to change according to the instructions of the retreat vajra master. You will be informed of any such changes upon arrival at retreat.
