Offering and Practice of Rota

Participating in Rota: A Practice of Devotion and Service

At our center, every visitor and retreatant is warmly invited to engage in the essential work of maintaining and caring for our shared space. This participation not only helps manage the operational costs, thereby keeping retreat fees affordable, but more significantly, it offers a profound opportunity for sacred service and merit generation.

Contributing through tasks such as cleaning the temple, tending to the grounds, and assisting with daily needs, becomes a powerful expression of our gratitude. It’s a tangible way to honor our late Holiness and the extraordinary chance we’ve been given to retreat under the guidance highly accomplished masters without the need to journey afar.

Understanding Rota

To ensure everyone can contribute, we embrace the concept of “Rota” — a term for scheduled, rotational service. True rota tasks are those essential to the center’s upkeep or directly linked to retreat activities, like transcribing teachings.

When registering for a retreat, your preferences, skills, and any physical limitations are considered to find the most suitable rota tasks for you. Each of us has unique gifts to offer. Engaging in even the simplest chores becomes a profound practice of transformation, perfectly aligned with our path of personal and spiritual development.

Typically, retreatants dedicate around 1 hour a day to rota activities.
