NOTE: In 2008, the Lama Dance will take place on Sunday, August 10, at 4 PM.
Every year the Palyul Retreat Center offers a presentation to the local community of Traditional Lama Dances.
The Lama Dance takes place on the final Saturday of the retreat, or the weekend after the closing day of retreat. The Ceremony commences at 4 PM.
Open to the public, refreshments are provided.
Directions From Binghamton:
- I-81 to Rte 12, NE, Chenango Bridge exit
- Take Route 12 North, Chenango Bridge, towards Greene and Norwich. The drive is about 25 minutes.
You will pass a shopping area, a golf course, drive through Kattelville and past farms.
- At Greene: LEFT at the traffic light onto Route 206
- Drive about 2 miles until you reach a flashing light (yellow on this side) for Route 2, a small country road leading to Smithville Flats.
- RIGHT onto this Rte. 2. You will drive past farms (and lots of deer!) about 10 minutes until you reach Smithville Flats village.
Directions From Smithville Flats:
Drive through the village on Rte. 2 (which is merged with 41) until the road starts to curve to the left, and forks. *Do not go up to the left on Rte 41 at this fork* but take Rte 220 to the right.
AFTER BEARING RIGHT onto Rte 220, about 1 mile, you will see German Hollow Road, just past the snow plow parking lot.
You will see a big sign for the retreat center on the left.
LEFT onto German Hollow Road. Drive up this dirt road about 1 mile and look for the retreat center sign reading "PALYUL TEMPLE" on the right side/
RIGHT onto this driveway. Drive up and the temple will appear before you!
Our parking lot will be to your right.
